Asset and Annotation Visibility

Asset and Annotation Visibility are modes for viewing documents and annotation.

Visibility modes can be changed at any time. 

  • When creating a new assignment you will be asked to make a selection
  • To get back to visibility settings, choose the Settings gear at the top left of the dashboard to edit

Here are the six modes:

  1. Closed-Hidden:
    Students can see their own documents and documents uploaded by instructors.
    Students can see only their own annotations.
    Instructors can see all assets and annotations.

  2. Closed-Private
    Perfect for blind peer-review of an instructor uploaded assignment.
    Students can see their own documents and documents uploaded by instructors.
    Students can see their own annotations and annotations by instructors.
    Instructors can see all assets and annotations.

  3. Closed-Public:
    Perfect for open peer-review of an instructor uploaded assignment.
    Students can see their own documents and documents uploaded by instructors.
    Students can see all annotations.

    Instructors can see all assets and annotations.

  4. Open-Hidden:
    Students can see documents uploaded by other students, and documents uploaded by instructors.
    Students can see only their own annotations.

    Instructors can see all assets and annotations.

  5. Open-Private:
    NOTE: Switching from Open-Hidden to Open-Private is how an instructor can release their annotations to all documents at once.
    Students can see documents uploaded by other students, and documents uploaded by instructors.
    Students can see only their own annotations, and annotations by instructors.

  6. Open-Public:
    Students can see documents uploaded by other students, and documents uploaded by instructors.
    Students can see all annotations.
    Instructors can see all assets and annotations.

 

When switching between visibility modes you can apply the new change to existing assets or not.

  • Check apply annotation visibility to current assets if you want every existing asset to adhere to the new mode
  • Leave this box unchecked if you want the new visibility mode to apply to future uploaded documents only
  • Existing documents with custom changes (example: one document was switched to hidden because of disciplinary action) will keep the custom change as long as "Include assets with custom selection" remains unchecked
